As a vendor of pump and agitation equipment, I had been working with a major hot sauce producer to provide pepper mash pumping and mixing solutions for several years. During this time, I realized how difficult it was to move and mix pepper mash. While I was working with this company, they approached me to develop a system that would allow them to ship their pepper mash from South America inside a Flexi Tank. At the time I had never even heard of a Flexi Tank. To me, it was a big disposable bag. What ever we called it, I understood that if we could find a way to mix the mash to empty this container, we could save this company hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in shipping costs.

This company had historically shipped their mash in company owned ISO tanks. This was very expensive because they had to pay two-way freight for these tanks. This company also shipped their pepper mash in drums. Again, this was costly because of having to ship the drums back empty. More recently, “super sacks” have become the industry standard. This offered significant savings because the super sacks are disposable and there is no longer a need for two-way freight.

I had no idea how difficult it was going to be to develop a system that would uniformly mix their product inside a tank. Because pepper mash does not flow like water, and is very difficult to mix, we had a real challenge. After over four years of trial and error (and getting covered with a lot of very hot pepper mash), we were able to develop a Flexi Tank design that could use a mixing system to uniformly mix the product once it arrived at the point of destination. “The Hog” was born. We had developed a unique product that could free many customers from inefficient tankers, drums, totes and “super sacks”. After realizing the success of our efforts, I decided to patent “The Hog” and start a new company. Our goal—Provide a cost effective way to ship difficult to handle liquids in bulk around the world. FINALLY….customers that ship thick, hard to handle liquids with solids could now earn the savings that other companies who use Flexi Tanks have been enjoying for years.
We have mastered the shipment of pepper mash in “The Hog”. We encourage any hot sauce producer or pepper grower to try our product. It could save you hundreds of thousands of dollars. We also challenge people to present us with other products to ship in “The Hog”. We are up to the challenge!
